New Adventure School has now been open for 5 years and during that time we have never had the funds to afford books. This probably sounds crazy to you, a school with no
books? But through borrowing from a neighboring school and scrounging what we could and teachers rising to the challenge, our children have done very well on standardized test when compared with their peers at other local schools. Just paying the rent and the teachers was all that our budget could withstand, and we prayed for God to provide and He has! Through a generous donation received late last year we were able to buy all the text books, reading books, maps, dictionaries and things that they needed. George Othiambo, the headmaster, was so excited when we purchased them that he kept saying “Now we have a real school!” over and over. His smile told the rest.

Along with the textbooks we were able to purchase 5 exercise books for each child. These are the notebooks that they use to copy down information into and study from (the books remain at the school). Most schools require their students to bring these
notebooks but our students come from families where that is just not possible. Many of our students are orphans who live with guardians who are struggling just to feed and clothe them and by design our school is for the neediest families who can’t afford school fees, uniform, or supplies. I got the undeserved priveledge to hand out the 5 exercise books to each child. I wish that you could have been there to see the smiles on there faces and hear the sincere “thank you” from each child.

Afterward, as I went around taking pictures, the smiles on their faces and the painstaking effort they were putting into putting their names on each book was great to see. We expect great things from these kids. Some people would probably look at them and their circumstances and say that they will never be able to rise above them but we believe
that God has called us here and given us these children for a reason. We want them to do well in school, obviously, but our first and primary goal is that they would know and love the Lord and follow him. They are great kids and I look forward to updating you on their progress.
